A year of travel is over. My yearly stats have been added up and I was on vacation 125 days this year (34% of the year). That to me, is awesome. Hopefully in 2013 it will be a similar number. But before 2013 resolutions and plans, it is fun to look back on the years’ travels and make a Best/Worst list. Here is my review of 2012 travels:
Belarus (worst). There was nothing much to see. The people were nice and the exchange rate was excellent but it was raining and the buildings there did not have much character (probably because of their Communist past). Read about Belarus here.
Also Bangkok (worst), just say no. Fly in and out there but immediately head to Chiang Mai or to the beaches.
Best and worst church: Church of Spilled Blood in St. Petersburg (best). It was just awesome. St. Basil’s in Moscow was great too but the inside of the Church of Spilled Blood was much better.
The gold temples of Thailand (worst). I was very templed-out by this point in the trip and the temples in Cambodia were so much more fun to look at and explore.
Best and worst meal: Poogan’s Porch in Charleston, SC (best), pork, pork, and more pork. So delicious!
Russian food (worst). Rubbery chicken, fishy fish, and boiled potatoes at every meal. Occasionally there was a good soup but overall the food was very bland in Russia. Head into Poland instead for perogies! Apparently I was so unimpressed with Russian food that I don’t have any pictures of it. Instead here is more deliciousness from my Southern Road trip.
BLT salad from The Pink House in Savannah
Best vacation: Tahiti (best)
I love vacations and can usually find something good in all of them (even you Belarus) so I don’t have a worst pick for an entire vacation, although food poisoning in Thailand was almost a trip killer.

Best and worst flight: Korean Air IAD-Seoul (best), legroom!, paper slippers!, no screaming kids!, delicious airplane food! Personal touch screen TVs!
Air Condor Frankfurt- BWI (worst). The flight itself was fine, the two screaming kids next to me weren’t.
And a bonus of getting to hang out with my nephew Caden (and sister of course, and brother-in-law).
Another good surprise was Cleveland- a Ravens win, good friends and the Rock and Roll Hall of fame.
2012 was a good year for me, personally and travel-wise. Here is to keeping up the fun and adventure in 2013!
