Labor Day Weekend took us to Alexandria, Virginia for a fun-filled weekend. The first thing we did after arriving in Alexandria is to take a boat ride through Potomac Riverboat Company Monuments Cruise up the Potomac past the Washington, DC monuments to Georgetown.
We got off the boat on the Georgetown Waterfront and promptly headed to M street for some shopping and football watching as it was opening day for NCAA College Football 2014.
My Iowa Hawkeyes were not on TV so I hopped over into the giant line at Georgetown Cupcake. They have a show called DC Cupake on TLC channel and are famous in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area for delicious cupcakes.
I opted for 2 salted caramel (one each for BC and I), 1 Key Lime, and 1 Blueberry Cheesecake cupcake). We decided not to eat them until after we ate real food.
The boat ride to Georgetown and back to Alexandria took by us the major DC monuments: Jefferson Memorial:
as well as the famous Watergate building complex- the stage where Nixon scandal started and the Monica Lewinsky scandal had some major drama.
We arrived back in Alexandria around 4pm and we hadn’t eaten any lunch yet! I was getting hangry (hungry/angry). We stopped at Sang Jun Thai Restaurant which had great reviews on Yelp. Honestly, at this point, my shoe would have tasted good. We ordered Spring Rolls to share
Tom Yum Soup with mushrooms, Papaya Salad
And Drunken Noodles with beef extra spicy. BC likes his food to kill his taste buds. I like spicy but I still like to taste my food. It was too spicy to really enjoy for me. My food was delicious though, I think even a less hungry version of myself would have enjoyed it too.
A few hours later we broke out the cupcakes!
The blueberry cheesecake ended up being the star with Salted Caramel in a close second place. The Key Lime was just okay. Georgetown Cupcake was definitely worth the wait and standing in line.
More from the National Harbor and Old Town Alexandria, Virginia tomorrow!
