Last year I commented that TBEX (Travel Blog Exchange) is a great conference to get into the same room with like-minded people who enjoy traveling 90 days out of the year, who spend their money on travel, who accrue miles and points like it is their job. This year, TBEX Ft Lauderdale was no different.
Unfortunately the weather was not great for half of the conference- it rained during our walking tour and kept us inside for one of our outdoor night events. Holy humid Batman! Last year in Cancun I was able to sneak out and hang out in the pool for a bit but not this year.
The conference was at the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention Center next to all the cruise ships. But most importantly it was close to Day Market Kitchen, the place I proclaim has the best breakfast sandwich.
I built my own with egg, goat cheese, avocado, and lemon aioli. Amazing!!!!
My one comment about TBEX is that a lot of speakers are the same every year- a few new additions but many I’ve heard or seen before. My favorite sessions were self-editing with Emma Sparks and Building a High Traffic Blog with Syed Balkhi. Syed’s presentation was wonderful.

The parties were pretty amazing at the conference. The opening reception was at the Museum of Science and Discovery. Hello giant Paella!
There were aquariums, animal exhibits, and snakes being brought around. Eek!
Here I am reporting on a forest fire in the weather exhibit in the museum.
My favorite party was at the Diplomat Hotel in Hollywood, Florida. I’m pretty sure I’ve stayed at this hotel in the past. It looked so familiar.
The party, food, and drinks were outstanding. They had a cigar rolling station as well as someone doing henna tattoos. The line was too long by the time I found it- next time!
Three different types of ceviche at the ceviche bar:
There was a multiple buffets with Cuban and ethnic favorites- roast pork, empanadas, Cuban sandwiches, steak with chimichurri, banana leaf-wrapped Mahi Mahi, yucca fries, and more. Muy bueno!
The desserts buffet was huge and tropical- coconut, mango, and key lime were prominent flavors. Thank you Visit Ft. Lauderdale for the great night out. #meetsunny
Overall, TBEX North America was a great conference for networking, making friends, learning new blog and social media related things, and having a great time! I look forward to seeing travel blogger friends and networking at next year’s TBEX North America 2016 in Minnesota!
