Boston Movie Tour WIth On Location Tours

Hello from Boston!  I am in Boston this weekend for the Women in Travel Summit– a group solely made up of female travelers/travel bloggers/industry professionals.  It is fun to hang out with my own kind.

On this dreary weather day I took a Boston movie tour from the On Location Tours. On Location has movie and TV tours in New York City and Boston.  The bus picked up a bunch of women bloggers at the hotel and we set off for the city-wide tour to different sights used on locations during films.

Tour snacks are essential 🙂

Boston Baked Beans are better than I remember.  I would not eat them as a kid.

The Departed, Witches of Eastwick, Ted, Field of Dreams, Blown Away, Moneyball, American Hustle, RIPD, The Town, Gone Baby Gone, Mystic River, and last but not least- Good Will Hunting, were all filmed at least partially in the city of Boston.

Field of Dreams shot a scene at Fenway where Kevin Costner heard “Go the Distance”. The native Iowan in me was excited!

On Location Tours has 4 TV screens on the bus that play the clips when we drive by the Boston site so you can pick out the landmarks.  Other movies filmed at Fenway Park are Blown Away, Ted, and Moneyball.

We stopped in South Boston to visit the L St Tavern which was the main bar setting used in Good Will Hunting. Inside the bar are a lot of Good Will Hunting cast photos because they hung out here during filming.  Very cool!

We saw Millers Market in South Boston that was featured in Sean Penn’s Mystic River.  Also Murphy’s Law in Gone Baby Gone.  Not everything was Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, or Mark Wahlburg related- only most of it.  I am going to make a point to watch Blown Away since the clips they showed were action packed and fun.

I never saw The Departed but this was this building where everyone was thrown off the roof.

Our last stop was to Cheers! Overall, I had a great time on the movie tour.  My mom, brother, and boyfriend are all big movie buffs- they would be pumped to see sites from all these great movies.  If you know a movie buff and are visiting Boston or New York, try out an On Location Tour. It is a great way to see a city on a rainy day.

  1. I’ve heard of On Location Tours and your Boston one looks great. I’m not a big movie fan but these would have still been fun to see. I would have geeked out over the Good Will Hunting and Cheers though. Have a great time at WITS. I’m hoping it comes to the West Coast next year.

This looks like a lot of fun! I’m planning on going to Boston this summer or fall to visit family… might have to add this to the itinerary!
