Rebekah and I left her family lakehouse in Maine to meader through eastern New Hampshire in the Notches area.  We stopped first in Grafton Notch State Park in Maine.

Here are some photos from a hike to Screw Auger Falls with Rebekah.

It would have been a great place to bring a picnic and eat on one of the big rocks. We had not thought to bring our sandwiches on our hike- next time. Other families and hikers were having picnics and taking off shoes and socks to wade in the water.

The hike up to Screw Auger was only about a mile (2 miles roundtrip) so it was nice and easy.  It was uphill but not too hard.

Then we drove into New Hampshire. This is my first time to New Hampshire!  One more state down, about 7 to go!

The Balsams Grand Resort in Dixville Notch, New Hampshire is now creepily abandon.  It makes me think of Stephen King’s The Shining. (<—— scariest book ever).  We ended up parking in one of the spots overlooking the Balsams Grand Resort and eating our sandwiches.  The area is so green and gorgeous.  It is hard to get to from populated areas which I’m sure is the reason why such a grand resort has difficulty staying open.

Fun side note: Dixville Notch is 1 of 2 New Hampshire towns that votes first in every presidential election.  They cast their ballots at midnight and the polls close at 12:01am.  Also good to note that there only a dozen or two people of voting age.

Grafton Notch State Park in Maine was worth the daytrip alone. And New Hampshire is a beautiful state!  Someday when I check Vermont off my bucket list, I hope to get back to New Hampshire. There is another gorgeous hike or two in my future here.
