Hello from Osaka, Japan
I made it to Japan! Today I flew into Osaka with no issues. The plane was full because it had to accommodate a lot of passengers (like me) from the cancelled flight the day prior. I sat next to a nice lady in the aisle and there was hardly any turbulence- a win in my book!
After the plane landed I hit an ATM before jumping on the bus to the hopping area where my hotel is located.
Rooms in Japan are small! Smaller than New York City small. I knew this going in so I was surprised by my decent sized single bed at the Osaka Namba Washington Hotel Plaza. I was expecting more of a rollaway type of cot. Anything will do after an 11.5 hour plane ride.
Fun hotel fact: there is a beer vending machine outside my door.
After setting my stuff down and meeting up with my group, we all decided to grab dinner together. The hotel is in a very fun with lots of restaurants and lighted signs. It ended up a fairly boring dinner- I was half-asleep for most of it. No Saki or Japanese beer or any fun food for that matter.
My favorites for the night were the eggplants above and the lettuce wraps. We ordered small plates to share which worked on well for the wallet
I hope to be doing more street eating to get some fun, new flavors in my belly. People were walking around and eating what looked like octopus, fried dough or fish balls, and mango shaved ice.
Overstimulation at it’s finest! It is like a mini-Times Square:
But with a river running through it.
Japan has been great so far! Everyone has been nice and very helpful if I ask for anything. Not speaking Japanese is difficult but I am making do just fine. I can’t wait to explore Japan some more- after I get a solid 8 hours of sleep!
