5 Things to do in Baltimore
Lately I’ve been sticking around Baltimore and enjoying my own city as a tourist. My next big adventure starts Monday and I am so excited to see more of the world. The past few month have been my time to reconnect with my city and friends.
My friends and I in our fancy threads:
If you find yourself in Baltimore for the weekend, here are 5 things to do in Baltimore:
1) Fancy drinks (or happy hour) in Harbor East.
A fancy night out with friends led us to Wit and Wisdom in Harbor East where I ordered the house Manhattan. At Wit and Wisdom it comes with a savory ice cube made up of mushroom stock and savory spices. The Manhattan itself was good, strange but good, definitely not a sweet Manhattan.
The crazy ice cube prior to the bourbon being poured:
Other great happy hour places include Oceannaire, Roy’s, Talara, Oliver Speck’s, Flemings, and Pazo.
2) The Aquarium
During the winter Baltimore sponsors First Fridays where the museums and the Aquarium offer half price tickets on Fridays after 5pm. I didn’t have to force BC to come with me, he was all for it. Normally the Aquarium is $30 or so for an adult so it is not a normal thing we do as Baltimore residents unless you have out-of-town visitors but it is one of the best attractions.
The jellyfish exhibit is the best:
The shark tank at the beginning and end of the main tour is also an exhibit you spend some time staring at and hoping you never see one in real life!
3) Camden Yards
Baseball season is upon us and Baltimore has one of the best parks in the US. Camden Yards is very pretty and a great setting to watch the Orioles play. My brother came to town so we hit up some games.
View from the bleachers ($15 seats):
For food at the game, you are allowed to bring food and non-alcoholic beverages in the stadium. If you don’t want to do that, hit up Boog’s BBQ in the outfield corridor. Yum!
There is also a tour they offer giving you the backstory of building Camden Yards.
4) Eat Seafood
Dining out is my specialty. My favorite restaurant in Baltimore is Mama’s on the Half Shell. The crab dip is something I could eat everyday (but my hips thank me for not eating it everyday). Some girlfriends and I did a ladies night out which brought us to Mama’s for some delicious food. Scallop appetizer (my 2nd favorite thing on the menu):
The crab dip, crabcakes, seafood melt are all fabulous. In fact, I’ve never had anything here I did not like.
5) Neighborhood nature
April is Cherry Blossom season in DC and Baltimore. While the crowds head to DC to see the monuments and trees, see them in Baltimore instead. They are pretty impressive in Federal Hill. Classic Baltimore photo with Cherry Blossoms and a random crab statue:
A walk along the Inner Harbor to Fells Point is my favorite nice weather walk. Don’t forget to see the Harbor from the top of Federal Hill as well. Eat some delicious crab cakes and check out the views!
Baltimore is a fun place to live and a great weekend escape. If you end up here for the weekend, find your own 5 things to do in Baltimore and tell me about your list!
Come try the delicious crab cakes and check out the views!
I was expecting some kitchen after shots. Too soon?? I haven’t been to Baltimore in forever (5 yrs to be exact)- need some good seafood!!!
Way to early!!! BC poured leveling concrete yesterday.
Also, apparently, #6 moonshine!!! Yum.
Who knew! I told BC about the cherry coke moonshine and he was sold!
