Key Largo

Our last meal in Key Largo was at Ballyhoo’s Seafood Grille. The restaurant is located right across the street from our hotel, the Bay Harbor Lodge and has all-you-can-eat-crab!  Since we are Marylanders and crab snobs we did not go for the crab tonight but had plenty of seafood.

My ginger-cucumber mojito was very sweet but refreshing.  The non-seafood sausage and chicken gumbo that BC ordered was my favorite thing of the whole meal.

He ordered the jerk mahi mahi for his entrée and a whole lot of black beans.  He did not eat all of them (thank goodness I say as the person sharing space with him!).

My meal was odd, in a good way.  It was called a salad but had cold spaghetti mixed in with the spinach, avocado, grilled mango, peanuts, and grilled shrimp.

BC ordered some sorbet for dessert since he convinced himself that he does not like Key Lime Pie.  I do not believe this and will test out some Key Lime Pie in Key West.

Overall, a pretty good dinner.  Some beers on the porch with a sunset.

Here I am walking the dock right before sunset:

Since it was an early night I woke up bright and early, ready for some stand up paddle-boarding.

SUP Key Largo

I paddled around for about an hour.  I saw a dolphin swimming by.  I almost fell off my board getting my camera turned on and pointed that way.

Besides the dolphin there were a few kayakers on the bay.  Other than that I had the place to myself.

I made my way back to the  Bay Harbor Lodge for some coffee and homemade scones. They make hundreds of them fresh every morning.  I had the Key Lime Coconut (and snuck a raspberry one for later).

The roadtrip through the Keys to Key West continues.

I am so jealous! I really need to revisit America. I was much younger the other times and decent food and culture were NOT on the agenda!!! I do love a ‘SUP’ too – tried it out in Devon last year (on the sea) found it really easy to go out, but coming in against the tide was far more difficult!!!!
