Melanie and Rob’s Key West Wedding
If you need an excuse for a vacation, a destination wedding fits the bill. When my friend’s Rob and Melanie decided to get married in Key West, the idea of a short Florida roadtrip through the Florida Keys immediately came to mind.
The main event- wedding and reception- took place at the Audubon House, which is close to all the action in Key West.
The wedding itself was at 5pm which was close to the hottest time of the day in Key West. The ten minute ceremony led directly to margaritas being passed out to the guests. I’ve never been so happy to see a cold margarita before!
Cocktail hour had some passed-around appetizers and a cheese and cracker tray. But the highlight of cocktail hour was that my purse and shrug caught on fire! There wasn’t assigned seating so my friends and I put our stuff on the table to claim some real estate together. After we did that, the staff set lit candles on the table. One ended up too close to my purse and sweater. Luckily one of Melanie’s best friends is a firefighter and she put out the fire with very little damage to my stuff. Oops! My things were from Target so it is nothing that can’t be replaced cheaply.
Before dinner was the couple’s first dance, sung by this fabulous lady:
Rob and Mel requested a song to get their guests onto the dance floor. Our trans-friend brought some men onto the dance floor including BC.
After some dancing was dinner! Wow, was this an amazing dinner!
Dinner was amazing! It was a buffet filled with filet mignon, calamari salad, sushi, grilled chicken and shrimp, and lobster tail. BC’s plate is above, mine is below. We did some damage!!!
Key Lime Pie and Key Lime cupcakes were for dessert in lieu of a cake. I was right- BC does like Key Lime Pie. These little pie tarts were delicious!
At 9pm the reception was over but no one was ready to go home. Melanie and Rob planned for the best Key West parade. A bunch of older Key West residents dressed up in their fabulous garb, grabbed their whistles and bongos, and we set off for a short stroll to Sloppy Joes– one of my favorite spots in Key West for dancing and live music.
We conga-lined and danced our way to Sloppy Joes.
An impromptu performance outside the bar actually stopped the music inside and brought people out.
Rob and Melanie’s Key West Wedding was one of the most fun weddings that I have ever been to. The weather ended up gorgeous, the food delicious, drinks were flowing, a conga line, the best wedding singer ever, and a dance party at the end. It couldn’t have been any more fun!
