Party at the Canadian Embassy

It is party time in DC- Canadian-style! Embassy parties in Washington, DC are well-known to those living in the area as a fun thing to do and experience some culture. Recently, I was lucky enough to be able to attend an event with Travel Massive at the Canadian Embassy in DC, right off the National Mall near the United States Capitol Building.

The Canadian Embassy itself is an architectural sight not to be outdone by the other buildings in close proximity- the National Archives and Newseum. (The Newseum is one of my favorite museums in DC too!)

Once inside the Canadian Embassy I was whisked away by some travel blogger friends to the cocktail table for a very strong but tasty special batch Canadian Club Whiskey cocktail, known as the Wards Island Sunset. It was a lot like a Manhattan.

Hors d’oeuvres were passed around and included some beef, duck, and goat cheese from Canada.

Other drinks for those who did not have to drive included red and white wine from the Ontario province and Molson beer. I will admit that the wine was not very good so I stuck with Diet Coke after my delicious Canadian club cocktail.

I chatted with some new people and some old friends and took some selfies of course. The selfies were part of a contest to win a trip to Toronto including airfare. One of my new friends won- I was super jealous!

Out on the balcony of the Canadian embassy I took my favorite photos of the night. It was a gorgeous spot and a perfect place to host an event.

Dessert and door prizes brought me back inside but alas, I did not win. Round 1 of dessert:

The different flavored macaroons were amazing! I definitely went back for thirds. #noshame

I had a fantastic time at the Travel Massive/Canadian Embassy party despite my self-induced macaroon tummy ache. I’m so glad I made the trip down from Baltimore to partake in the festivities. The balcony view alone with worth the price of a metro ticket + rush hour traffic to get to the metro.

The shiny, new metro car on the DC subway yellow/green line made me so happy! Usually that line is always a dumpy puke yellow, smelly car.

That’s all from Washington DC and Travel Massive’s Canadian Embassy party! I’ll be on the hunt for special batch Canadian Club whiskey cocktails this weekend- yum!

Reader question: Have you ever been to an Embassy party? An embassy anywhere?

  3. I didn’t even know an Embassy Party was a thing. That sounds like so much fun. I LOVE macaroons, I’m a good baker, but they’re something I’m afraid to attempt to make, so I always savor them when I come across some good ones. #BestofBlogs
