The Dignitary and Marriott Marquis Hotel, Washington DC

This past Tuesday I had the opportunity to visit The Dignitary and Marriott Marquis Hotel in Washington, DC.  I hopped on the MARC train after work for $8 which takes you from either Penn Station or Camden Yards in Baltimore to Union Station in DC.  It is so easy to do.

About a mile from Union Station is the Dignitary and Marriott Marquis.  The Marriott Marquis is a brand new hotel, opened in 2014 with a glorious, grand atrium. The metal statues in the entry are from Baltimore sculptor Rodney Carroll.

Travel Massive is a group of travel writers, travel industry professionals, and travel enthusiasts. There are dozens of Travel Massive groups in the United States (more all over the world) including a chapter in Baltimore (I’m one of the leaders) and one in DC.  Washington DC’s Travel Massive Group had their event at the swanky Dignitary, inside the Marriott Marquis.

The Dignitary was focusing on sharing their late summer drink menu with a list of bourbon, whiskey, and rye based concoctions. I had the Gold Buck which was Johnnie Walker Gold, mint, and ginger beer.  It was pretty amazing.  I love anything with good ginger beer.

The food spread was pretty spectacular if you like charcuterie and cheese plates- which I do.  I had ate shrimp and chorizo flatbread that hit the spot. I would have eaten a lot more but I was busy socializing with other travel buffs like myself. Conversations with other travel gurus and networking with industry professionals is always a lot of fun. The fun must end though. I have an early work time the following morning so I left a bit early to catch another MARC train back to Camden Yards. It is so easy to get to DC on the trains.  Note to self: I need to do this more often!!!
