The Hits- Guatemala and Belize
My Guatemala and Belize trip is over 🙁 By no means did I see everything that Guatemala and Belize have to offer but I can tell you some places and experiences you should not miss when you plan your trip to Central America.
1) The Blue Hole– Belize
Off the coast of Belize is The Blue Hole- one of the most interesting and best places to dive and snorkel. My dive trip was cancelled because the seas were too rough due to storms. Wah! Next time Blue Hole, next time.
2) Antigua, Guatemala
Antigua is a former capital of Guatemala with Spanish colonial architecture that is surrounded by volcanoes! Big, active volcanoes!!!
This volcano outside of Antigua started a steam erruption while we were there!
3) The Iguana Project, San Ignacio, Belize
The Iguana Project, located at the San Ignacio Resort Hotel, is a fun way to spend a few hours learning about iguanas and Belizean wildlife. You get to hold as many iguanas as you like. I wasn’t as adventurous and just took photos.
4) Tikal, Guatemala
The Granddaddy of ancient Maya ruins is Tikal. The temples are huge and well-preserved by the jungle. This is a must-see destination if you find yourself in Central America.

Those are the hits from my trip to Guatemala and Belize. There were a few misses as well but it was mostly due to the stormy weather. However, back at home in Baltimore and Iowa (I have many homes) there were negative temperatures and a lot of snow. I think I did pretty well despite the rain and thunder.
Central America is a great winter escape for those in North America. Consider adding Belize and Guatemala to your list for an easy vacation.
