Hotel Monaco Philadelphia and City Tavern Restaurant

I had to do a blog post on this hotel.  We are staying at the Hotel Monaco Philadelphia because I love the one in Baltimore and we got a good deal.  The decorating is pretty fun.  It seemed a bit obnoxious at first but it really grew on me and now I think it’s awesome.

Plus our view at Hotel Monaco Philadelphia is of Independence Mall and Independence Hall itself.  Neat.

BC and I made it just in the nick of time to get a glass of wine.  From 5pm-6pm everyday they have wine hour where you get free wine in the lobby.  We walked in the door at 5:59pm and the nice bellman ran and grabbed us a glass while I checked in.

Next up was dinner.

We ended up at City Tavern which was featured on Food Network’s Best Thing I Ever Ate for their West Indies Pepperpot Soup.  It was really good.  It was spicy in a flavorful kind of way, not a burn your mouth with heat kind of way.  Not very photogenic though.

Turkey Pot Pie for me.  Pork Chop for him.  Beer samplers!  And free dessert of apple cobbler with cinnamon ice cream for checking in there on Foursquare.  Score!

The wait staff dressed up in Revolutionary Era garb and it seemed touristy but Yelp told me all this beforehand and said to go anyway.  The beer sampler was my favorite part (not really shocking) with the Alexander Hamilton ale and the Ben Franklin spruce ale were our top 2 choices.

Sightseeing and showing off our inner history nerd are on the agenda for the rest of this Easter weekend.
